42nd annual Inter-School Athletics Championships |16 June 2018

All set for tomorrow

The Stad Linite will tomorrow host the 42nd annual National Inter-School Athletics Championships and Sports NATION got the reaction of last year’s winners Anse Royale secondary school and La Digue primary and their prognostic for tomorrow’s event.

La Digue physical education teacher Gilmène Ladouce said this year, certain factors regarding the athletes’ form may lead to a less impressive show at the competition.

He explained that they normally start training early at the end of the third term of the previous year, but however, noted that since the dates of the heats were yet to be decided and by the time they were confirmed, students were on holidays and some were even out of the country.

This, he said, added to very little training time.

He also said on the two days of heats, the weather was not on their side and this may have been a factor contributing to some bad performances.

“We however did what we could and we have been training for the finals and my athletes are going out on the track and field to perform to the best of their ability,” he added.

“Hopefully, we will win some medals and achieve good results,” further added Ladouce.

Long time trainer of the Anse Royale secondary school team Gerish Rachel said preparation for the competition has stayed the same over the years, and his athletes always perform well when the time comes.

“We started training since last year, and the eagerness to win is very high among the students,” he noted.

He said they are very determined as they normally are every year.

He explained that he focuses on younger athletes, conditioning them for the competition, so that when they get older they become use to it.

Coach Rachel also noted that following comparisons made, he noticed that his athletes are faster than those from other schools.

“It is clear that the Anse Royale secondary school will be a force and we are going all out for our fifth title in a row,” he added

Sports NATION was unable to get the reaction of any representative of the Seychelles Business Studies Academy, last year’s post-secondary winners.
