17 students graduate in Cisco Certified Network Associate CNA 1 and 2 |16 June 2018

Seventeen students from various work organisations yesterday received their certificates from the University of Seychelles and Cisco respectively after following the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) training course.

They graduated in a ceremony held at the ICT Centre of the University of Seychelles (UniSey) at Mont Fleuri.

The training course was held in collaboration with Cisco International and consists of an information technology (IT) certification and an associate level career certification from Cisco.

Those who took part in the last hackathon competition during the recent ICT week were also certified.

Present at the graduation ceremony were Benjamin Choppy, the principal secretary for the Department of Information Communications and Technology (ICT), senior staff of the department and officials from UniSey, lecturers and students.

For the hackathon segment, there were three prizes with team Christian Victor, Dorian Marie and Louys Belle emerging the best.

“It is an honour for us to be the centre for Cisco and we are very happy to have those students receiving their certificates in CCNA 1 and 2. We sincerely hope we can continue on this programme and get to the level of CCNA 4 and 2,” said Joelle Perreau, UniSey’s Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Development.

She welcomed the students coming from various organisations to continue to follow the programme.

Lecturer Bernard Songoire, who conducted the course, said it was more theory based as the students do not really have the necessary Cisco equipment at their work place and added that he is willing to conduct higher level courses in that area.

Mr Songoire noted that the students can later follow the Professional Certified course as with CCNA 1 they need to do all four stages to get the Cisco certification.

“The reason I followed the course was to upgrade myself in my field of work as technology is getting more advanced every day. It has also helped me to better understand the future development trends in IT,” said Solo Andriamiharisoa from UniSey, who graduated in CCNA 1 Introduction to Network.

After graduating in CCNA 1 last year, Versange Dubois from Cable & Wireless IP TV, decided to take on CCNA 2 Routing and Switching, a knowledge which will augur well with what he is dealing with every day.

“CCNA 2 was very tough but I tried my best and worked hard. It is an internationally recognised certificate. I will follow the next two levels as it is a certificate that not a lot of people have,” says Dubois.
