73 students graduate from ISS A-Level studies |19 June 2018

Seventy-three (73) students who completed their IGCSE and A-Level studies from International School Seychelles (ISS) this year graduated during a ceremony held at the International Conference Centre on Saturday.

Present were parents, teachers and friends of the year 11 and year 13 classes of 2018 who filled the auditorium to witness the students receive their certificates and awards.

Nineteen-year-old Owen Hua was the recipient of the school's Board of Governors' Award, an award given to a student considered as an all-rounder.

According to the chairperson of the board, Laura Valabhji, the recipient of the Board of Governors’ Award must not only perform well academically but should  also be hard-working, resilient, respectful, helpful and should have a positive attitude.

Hua, one of the 31 students to graduate from year 13, said he was not expecting to receive such an award but noted that the Board of Governors’ Award is the end result of his hard work and perseverance. He also won prizes for the student who most excelled in Biology and Mathematics.

He will be continuing with his studies in the United Kingdom where he will be pursuing a degree in psychology.

The Key Stage 5 Principal Award, presented to the year 13 student who excelled academically, was awarded to 18-year-old Annie Alvis who also came out top for Economics and Accounting.

"We all managed to make it through with the help of our teachers. They really supported us through everything and I am really grateful for that," Alvis said.

She added that she is planning to study hotel management in the United Kingdom and afterwards return to Seychelles to contribute to her country’s economic development.

In regards to the year 11 class, Jovan Varsane was the recipient of the Key Stage 4 Principal Award which was no surprise as he came out as the best student for Physics, French, Geography, Mathematics and Business Studies.

"I worked hard for most of the subjects and I'm really happy for the recognition. It is an amazing feeling when your hard work pays off," Varsane said.
