Football: Airtel Cup 2018 - Holders Northern Dynamo drawn in pool D |21 June 2018

Reigning champions Northern Dynamo will start the defence of their Airtel Cup won last year in group D after being drawn alongside Praslin sides LightStars and Revengers.

The draw for this year’s competition took place yesterday at the Maison Football, Roche Caïman, in the presence of members of the Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) executive committee, Airtel and clubs’ representatives.

For this year’s competition, the 12 first division teams have been drawn into four groups.

Group A is made up of Côte d’Or, Red Star Defence Forces and La Passe, while Group B features Anse Reunion, St Michel and St Louis. Foresters, Au Cap and The Lions are in group C.

The competition will start on a home and away league basis where the teams will face each other twice in the group stage, with the top two in each group moving to the quarterfinals which will be a cross knock-out.

In last year’s final, Northern Dynamo edged out defending league champions St Louis 2-1, with goals from Rajamana and Wesley Esther to lift their first major trophy.

Coincidentally, it was St Louis’ manager Davis Khan who picked Northern Dynamo at yesterday’s draw.

Northern Dynamo’s manager Nigel Michaud said they will be all out to defend their title as all the other teams will be coming after them, since they are the defending champions.

“We have a cup to defend and we will be all out to retain it,” he added.
