Public Service Day to be celebrated on June 23 |21 June 2018

The Seychelles Public Service will once again join the United Nations in celebrating Public Service day on June 23, 2018.

This day is dedicated to celebrating the value and virtue of public service to the community; highlighting the contribution of public service in the development process; recognising the work public servants and encouraging young people to pursue a career in the public service.

The local theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Innovating the Public Service for Sustainable Development’.

The local theme fits within the United Nations Theme: ‘A path towards the achievement of the 2030 agenda and Sustainable Development Goals’.

Implementation of the internationally agreed development goals also relies heavily on the work of public servants – their leadership, their capacities, their innovations in the delivery of vital services.

The department of Public Administration in collaboration with other ministries and departments will be commemorating Public Service Day with a week of activities that will include a Public Service Day Message on June 22, 2018 by President Danny Faure and an introductory spot on Public Service Day on June22 by the chief secretary of the Public Service, Jessie Esparon.

Media publicity such as TV Spots will be aired and Nation articles published from June 23 to 29 with the aim to promote innovation and excellence in the public service in support of the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the principle to leave no one behind which is at the core of the 2030 agenda.

Several organisations will participate in TV spots in this year’s activities to highlight how they are working to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Each TV spot will be followed by a detailed Nation article.

These organisations are the Seychelles National Parks Authority and it will highlight the management of invasive species under its Goal 15 objective which is to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

The Ministry of Health will also be promoting its Reproductive Health Care under its Goal 3 objective to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages while the agriculture department will promote home gardening under its Goal 2 objectiveto end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

The employment department will focus on Youth Employment under its Goal 8 to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

The chairperson of the National Sustainable Development Goals Committee will focus on the need to implement the Sustainable Development Goals in a closing TV spot on June 29.
