World Music Day (June 21) |22 June 2018

Perseverance primary pupils showcase musical skills

Entertainment in town

A group of pupils from Perseverance North primary school yesterday had the opportunity to display their skills and talents playing different musical instruments during a short performance organised to commemorate World Music Day.

Meanwhile the Saturn Band entertained passersby and workers in Victoria during lunch hour with live entertainment where it was posted outside the National History Museum.

The pupils of Perseverance North under the guidance of music teacher at the school, Terry Havelock, staged a performance of different musical tunes which they have learnt to play during their music lessons.

Before the musical performance the school hosted an exhibition of a variety of musical instruments initiated by the school’s council chairperson Egbert Vidot and music teacher Mr Havelock who between them own the instruments on display.

The instruments on display included a 12-string guitar, a moutya drum, a bonm, a mandolin, a biscernica, among others.

“The idea was to show the pupils some of the different musical instruments that exist and what a better day than on World Music Day,” Mr Vidot pointed out.

The Fête de la Musique or World Music Day is an annual music celebration that is celebrated on June 21 each year.

Music day was first celebrated in Paris in 1982. Music Day later became a world celebration commemorated in 120 countries around the world today.

To commemorate this special day here the National Arts Council (NAC)  in collaboration with the Mayor’s office organised live entertainment by the Saturn Band  in Victoria.

The celebration will continue at Café Esplanade, Carrefour des Arts today, Friday June 22, from 7pm onwards with performance by the Jewal Band.
