Corvina clarifies the facts on Alphonse Island following media reports |23 June 2018

In a statement sent to all media houses, Corvina Investment Ltd has released the following statement:

“We wish to correct recent statements made in the media concerning Corvina Investment Company Ltd’s alleged involvement on Alphonse Island. These are built around two companies with no links to Corvina and one that was liquidated many years ago. Since 2006, Corvina has had no business activity at Alphonse.

“On May 18, one publication lists companies said to be members of the Corvina Group. Unfortunately, the list contains many errors including the names of seven companies that no longer even exist. One of these is Alphonse Resort Development Ltd. Corvina used to hold a minority stake in this company but trading activity ceased on December 1, 2006. The Registrar of Companies was requested to strike the company off. This was done and the official notice appeared in the Government Gazette of December 14, 2009.

“Another company listed as part of the Corvina Group on May 18 is Alphonse Island Resorts Ltd. On May 22 a separate publication names Alphonse Island Lodge Ltd as an associate company of Corvina. Both statements are wrong. At no time has Corvina ever held any interest whatsoever in either company.

“On June 22, a third media outlet repeats the claim that Alphonse Resort Development Ltd is an active associate company of Corvina and it is at the centre of fly-fishing activities. This is mistaken. As mentioned, Alphonse Resort Development Ltd entered voluntary liquidation long ago.

“Also on June 22, one publication claims Silhouette Cruises is 100% owned by Corvina and claims Corvina has cornered this sector of the economy. In fact, Corvina controls 33% of Silhouette Cruises and has no rights of access other than the same enjoyed by every other live-aboard boat operator in Seychelles.

“We hope to address other media errors concerning Corvina at a later date, but given recent discussions this particular issue needs to be corrected now to avoid further repetition.”
