Seychelles Breweries invests in new labeller on in its PET Line |25 June 2018

Seychelles Breweries Limited (SBL) has upgraded its PET line with an investment of over R22 million in a state-of-the-art high speed rotary labeller on the line.

The labeller was installed by an Italian company, PE Labellers S.p.A., and was done during the month of April and is now currently in its commissioning stage.

Technicians from PE Labellers working alongside the engineering team at the SBL, were on site during the installation works and also spent an additional month on site to train the local operators.

During the installation period, SBL stopped production of its carbonated soft drinks range in PET for 10 days, which is why consumers might have experienced a short period of non-availability of certain brands in trade.

“We did build stock of carbonated soft drinks before we started the project, but in view of the fact that sales were more than we had anticipated during that time, we did experience some shortage on certain brands,” explained Martin Cecil, SBL’s supply chain director.

“The new labeller has an improved capacity of 15,000 bottles per hour and will also significantly improve the quality of the labelling of our PET products,” he added.

The second phase of the upgrading of the PET line will entail the installation of a new shrink wrapper and will be implemented in July of this year. The new shrink wrapper will use the latest technology and be simpler to operate. Additionally it is more environmentally friendly as it will use less shrink wrap during the process.

Mr Cecil said the company will continue to invest in the PET line to improve the efficiency and reliability of the line to guarantee consistent supply to trade.

The refurbishment work on the PET line forms part of the 5-year investment plan which the managing director, Nick Cook, announced two years ago.

The new labeller has an improved capacity of 15,000 bottles per hour and will also significantly improve the quality of the labelling of SBL’s PET products, according to the company
