Business delegation invited to join President Faure on State visit to India |25 June 2018

As reported in Saturday’s Seychelles NATION, the President has set off on a state visit to India. This is his first State visit to India. Given the importance of cooperation in the areas of trade, commerce and finance between India and Seychelles, the president has invited a group of local businessmen to form part of his delegation.

The representatives of the private sector business community who have joined the presidential delegation are Gafoor Yakub of Chaka Brothers & Penlac, Ramu Pillay of Pillay R Group, N. Ramani of Ramani & Company, Ravji Raghwani of Laxmanbhai, Keshra Budhia of Shreeji Construction & Laxmi Trading and Jamshed Pardiwalla of Allied Agencies.

The delegation, along with the SCCI chairman Olivier Bastienne, left for New Delhi on Saturday morning.

The main official programme of the State visit will be from June 24 to 26, 2018 in New Delhi. The Seychelles business delegation will of course coordinate with Mr Bastienne on the issues that will be discussed at the business forum or the meeting  organised for early next week.

President Faure is expected to address the business community in India represented by three major Chambers of Commerce & Industry based in India. The planned business meeting will also feature the renewal of cooperation between the two countries’ Chambers of Commerce & Industry by the signing of a new memorandum of understanding with the SCCI represented by its chairman Bastienne. It should be noted that the first ever memorandum of understanding between the two parties was signed a long time ago by one of the past chairmen of SCCI, the late Yakub Chaka.

The business delegation accompanying the president has unanimously decided that Gafoor Yakub, the son of the late Yakub Chaka, will make a short intervention at the New Delhi business meeting on behalf of the business community in Seychelles.

The Seychelles business delegation is expected to return to the country on June 27.
