President Faure gets warm welcome on his first State visit to India |26 June 2018

President Danny Faure was received by his Indian counterparts, President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Hyderabad House in Delhi, on his first State visit to India.

Hyderabad House is used by the government of India for banquets and meetings for visiting foreign dignitaries.

President Faure was given full military honours as he arrived yesterday morning at the forecourt of RashtrapatiBhavan, at the Hyderabad House, escorted by Indian cavaliers.

He was greeted by a 21-canon gun salute.

After being welcome by the two Indian leaders, President Faure stepped on the apron for the general salute while the military band played the national anthems of Seychelles and India.

He was later introduced to other dignitaries of the Indian delegation by President Kovind and Prime Minister Modi.

President Faure also took turns to introduce the Seychelles delegation to the two Indian leaders and their delegation.

After the formal red carpet ceremonial welcome, President Faure was convoyed to Raj Ghat, a memorial built in memory of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the Nation. At the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi, President Faure laid a wreath in his memory.

Upon signing the condolence visitor’s book, President Faure was presented with a bust of Mahatma Ghandi and also a script of his writings by Shri Rajneesh, Secretary of Rajghat Samadhi Committee. The Seychelles delegation was also present at the wreath laying ceremony.

President Faure later paid a courtesy call on the Indian Minister for External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj, at the Oberoi Hotel.
