2018 FIFA World Cup - Both semi-finals and the final match will be aired |06 July 2018

The Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) has confirmed that it will air both semi-finals, the final match and the match for third place in the 2018 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (Fifa) World Cup.

In addition, it will also broadcast two of the four quarter-final matches.

This will be when France plays Uruguay today, along with England against Sweden tomorrow.

It will not be possible for the SBC to broadcast all the four quarter-finals because the two other matches are not included in the 32 matches for which broadcasting rights have been purchased via TV Media Sports, the sole provider of matches for free-to-air broadcasters for sub-saharan Africa which includes Seychelles.

In addition to 32 full matches, the SBC is also airing highlights of all 64 matches.

However, Fifa itself, and not TV Media Sports, has put together the package of 32 matches for free-to-air (FTA) broadcasters, like the SBC, with a focus on the Confédération Africaine de Football (Caf) participating teams. The SBC did not have the possibility of selecting which of the matches it wishes to broadcast.

The condition for Pay TV is different and some Pay TV broadcasters, including those in Seychelles are able to air all the matches.

The SBC has reiterated that it is not satisfied with the limited number of World Cup matches provided to national public service broadcasters that have not been able to buy the broadcasting rights to all matches.
