Seychelles-India Day postponed to October 2018 |06 July 2018

The 6th Seychelles-India Day will now be held from October 5-7, 2018 instead of this month, the event’s organising committee has announced.

The change for moving the event to a later date is based on several factors with regard to the availability of popular international Indian celebrities, to give more time to include more activities and the  logistics involved and the availability of venues, said D.V.Sharma, the media executive for the Seychelles-India Day 2018 committee.

He explained that the Seychelles-India Day is an important national event on the calendar of activities in Seychelles and that every year it is organised during the month of October by the Indian Association of Seychelles in collaboration with the Indian high commission in Seychelles, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Ministry of Tourism, the Indian community in Seychelles as well as other businesses and service organisations.

The month of October also marks the birth anniversary of Shri Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on October 2.  He was a famous Indian activist and leader that led the struggle of the Indian independence movement globally.

The Seychelles-India Day celebration encompasses celebration, an extravaganza of exhibitions, culture, tourism and business related events as well as presenting cultural performances by Indian celebrities and Seychellois artists.

Mr Sharma said that this year’s Seychelles-India Day will incorporate an ‘India-Seychelles Relations’ exhibition, a fun-fair showcasing India, Bollywood Gala Night with Indian celebrities such as actors, choreographers, dancers, singers, musicians and workshops related to sports and social projects.

A first activity, the Seychelles-India Day 2018 Image Award, has already been launched and the date of submission of photos has been extended to September 24, 2018 instead of July 24, 2018.

Similarly sports activities like badminton planned for July 16-21 and a chess competition on July 14 have been postponed. New dates are being finalised and will be communicated in due course.

This will provide more time for participants to prepare and compete.
