STB hosts second digital marketing workshop, reinforces digitalisation |09 July 2018

Representatives of the tourism trade and several government organisations have responded to the Seychelles Tourism Board’s invitation to attend a digital marketing workshop.

The two-day workshop, attended by some 60 participants, was held at the Avani Seychelles Barbarons Resorts and Spa.

Digital marketing expert, who is also the founder and chief executive of E-tourism frontiers, Damian Cook, facilitated the workshop.

In her opening remarks, the chief executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB), Sherin Francis, stressed on the importance of digitalization in the tourism sector, with Seychelles facing so much competition as a tourist destination.

Mrs Francis stated that the STB remains committed to enhancing Seychelles’ digital footprint as well as empowering its stakeholders in developing their businesses further online.

“Fully packaged holidays can today be purchased online in most destinations—from your flights to your accommodations, logistics and excursions. The means and ways of reaching our potential customers has drastically changed,” said Mrs Francis.

The STB chief executive expressed hope that the participants will gain much information and insights from the sessions and that they will have the tools in hands to turn their businesses around using digital marketing methods.

Participants also had a chance to revisit the STB destination website launched earlier this year. This was an approach employed by the organising team to encourage participants to be proactive in the presentation of their own products.

This is the second digital marketing workshop organised by the STB for the tourism trade. The last one was in 2016. STB also hosted a similar event in partnership with e-tourism frontiers for the African tourism board earlier this year.

In his introductory presentation, Damian Cook explained that since his recent visit to Seychelles to lead the first workshop there has been a drastic shift in the digital marketing trends.

“Digital marketing is the present, if you talk about it as the future you are in the past. Even the way advertisements work has changed on social media, there is also changes in legislations regarding practises like email databases. It is important to be kept au-fait,” said Mr Cook.

He also mentioned that the aim of this workshop is to enable all participants to manage relationship, between their respective organisations and their clients.

He also commended the STB for its active involvement in continuously organising such seminars and keeping its stakeholders up to date with the trends.

A similar workshop was also organised on Praslin for stakeholders on the inner islands.
