Maz Million, changing the lives of ordinary citizens |09 July 2018

Local lottery retailer Maz Million is for real and it is here to stay, with the aim of bringing changes and bettering the life of the ordinary citizens.

Maz Million representative Marie-France Macgregor said this on Friday at the Treasure Cove Hotel at Bel Ombre during a ceremony to award prizes to the winners of the country’s first ever million rupee lottery.

Farmer Wyn Larue of Baie Lazare won the lottery’s star prize which was R2 million.

Not new to organising lotteries, Mrs Macgregor has been previously responsible for organising Festival Kreol and Seychelles Carnaval lotteries, among others.

“I wanted to bring in something new as I was tired of seeing people winning cars and home appliances as prizes,” she explained.

Comparing local lotteries to those abroad, Mrs Macgregor noted that it was time to step up and make a difference in the lives of people who win lotteries.

She also said the sale went well, despite the skepticism at the beginning.

Mrs Macgregor added that they have collected enough money to top up the next lottery to R3,000,000 as star prize.

She further added that other than being a business, the most important thing for Maz Millon about the million rupee lottery was to realise the project and create a name and good reputation for the company.

“We used the traditional draw method to guarantee that there will be a genuine winner and I am pleased that now the people trust us and they know that we are legit,” she concluded.

Baie Lazare farmer Larue, 29 years old, was on his way home from the market when he decided to pop into the Maz Million office in Victoria to buy a ticket.

“I will still work as a farmer even if I have won the R2 million,” said a very timid Larue.

He added that he will share his winnings with churches and also with homes for less fortunate kids.

“The remaining money will be put into a fixed deposit account for two years, then I will decide what to do with it,” he explained.

Caleb Antat of North East Point won the first prize of R1 million, while Marinette Victor of La Louise pocketed R500,000 as the second prize winner.

Anne Athanasius of La Misère won the third prize which was R250,000.

Tickets for the second millionaire lottery which carries a R3 million star prize are already on sale.

The draw will be on December 30, 2018.
