Yachting - Govinden finishes second at the Kieler Woche 2018 |13 July 2018

 

 

 

Local sailor Rodney Govinden has managed to clinch the second overall spot at the recently-held Warnemünder Woche 2018, an annual sailing event in Rostock Germany.

Govinden who specialises in the Laser Standard class gathered a grand total of 14 points after three third place, two second place and a first place finish in five races.

He finished behind Poland’s Dawid Kania who was the overall winner with 20 points from four first place and one second place finish.

One of the largest sailing events in the world, and also one of the largest Volksfeste in Germany, the Warnemünder Woche attracts millions of people every year from all over Germany and neighbouring countries.

About 1,800 sailors from around 30 nations meet annually in Warnemünde for high-powered sailing as well as surfing and kiting competitions on the water.

While in Germany, Govinden also took part in the Kieler Woche, an annual sailing event in Kiel, the capital of Schleswig-Holstein.

He was ranked 63rd overall out of 118 sailors.
