Local districts to receive sporting equipment |21 July 2018

All districts on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue will soon receive a batch of sports equipment to help revive the friendly atmosphere by bringing people together and also to help promote healthy living through sports activities.

Outgoing chief executive of the National Sports Council (NSC) Giovanna Rousseau officially handed over the equipment to the principal secretary for local government Marie-Celine Vidot during a ceremony yesterday afternoon at the Roche Caïman Omni-Sports Gym in the presence of Designated Minister Macsuzy Mondon.

Also present were the incoming chief executive of the NSC, Jean Larue, officials of the NSC and staff of the local government department.

Each district will receive five volleyballs, footballs and basketballs along with a tennis table set, two sets of petanque balls, one dart board and 30 bibs.

Ms Rousseau said with the lack of sports activities at district level, the NSC is hoping that new equipment encourage people to engage in sports.

“We hope that the equipment will help the districts focus on sports activities and also on keeping fit,” added Ms Rousseau.

She noted that the NSC noticed the lack of sports in the districts and through the handing over of equipment their aim is to motivate people to take up sports.

“We hope that this will motivate people to get involved in sports and when sporting activities are organised, it will give everyone a chance to get started,” she further added.

Upon accepting the equipment, Ms Vidot thanked the NSC for the equipment which she said come at an opportune time as sports help people to stay away from bad influences.

“Sport is an important factor in life and these equipment will help motivate people to participate in sporting activities,” she added.
