Olympic Solidarity - 26 local coaches receive Paisac accreditation |21 July 2018

A group of 26 local coaches have received their certificates after completing a 10-day seminar in Applied Sport Sciences as part of the preparations for next year’s Indian Ocean Island Games.

During the training hosted by the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga), in collaboration with the Programme d'Appui International au Sport Africain et des Caraïbes (Paisac), the coaches learned about performance psychology, physical preparation, long term athlete development and performance planning.

The training,, which took place between July 9-19 was conducted by two local Paisac graduates, namely swimming coach Barnsley Albert and athletic coach Anna Barra, alongside Paisac instructors Joe Mainville-Tessier and Madeleine Hallé.

In his remarks at Thursday’s closing ceremony, in the presence of principal secretary for sports Fabian Palmyre and director general of Paisac, Rebecca Sueur, Paisac president Pierre Ambroise thanked the coaches for helping the organisation to attain its main objective which is to bring specialised training programme to those who are not able to get a proper training scholarship.

He added that the best thing with the training is that it was conducted by two former students of Paisac who have now become its representatives.

“Seeing Paisac instructors such as Barnsley and Anna taking over is something that is really heartwarming,” said Mr Ambroise.

He also thanked Socga for the trust and long partnership with Paisac for the past 13 years.

Mr Ambroise further added that the training is also the beginning of an effort to bring all coaches from different sporting disciplines to work together towards a common goal, all by sharing their knowledge and experience.

Speaking about commitment towards sports, Mr Ambroise commended basketball coach Phillip Arissol, member of the National Assembly for Anse Boileau, also a Paisac graduate who was present at Thursday’s ceremony to bring his support for his fellow coaches.

Despite his busy schedule, Mr Arrisol is still active in coaching.

On behalf of the Seychelles government, Mr Palmyre thanked Paisac and Socga for their continuous support towards local sports and urged the coaches to put into practice what they learned during the seminar.

He asked them to be mindful about their preparation, especially being punctual in submitting their different plans and programmes.

This, he said, will ease the fund-finding procedure.

On behalf of the coaches, Roy Noël read the vote of thanks before the exchange of gifts.

Paisac has been developed in collaboration with the French-speaking African sports environment in order to be able to respond better to the specific needs of its coaches and sports trainers. It now also operates in Commonwealth countries.

Since the beginning of the partnership in 2005, Paisac has trained 38 local coaches and one qualified trainer which is Barnsley Albert.

The 25 coaches who completed the recent 10-day seminar are Joel Dubel, Roy Noël, Michel Malbrook, Dominic Pillay, Lina Lestrange, Terry Celeste, Jerry Legras, Rival Payet, Gavin Jeanne, Francis Labrosse, Robert Suzette, Ron Morel, Peter Youpa, Jimmy Vel, Jones Mangroo, Julien Onezime, Adolph Nalletamby, François Magloire, Ruudy Joseph, Williana Dubois, Tony Hortere, William Dixie, Francis Duval, Allan Julie and Philip Albert.
