Karting: Junior and Cadet round 5 |24 July 2018

Championships take shape

The Junior and Cadet championships are taking shape now as the season reaches the half-way point, with many surprises in both races and results.

In the Junior class, Aaron Michel took a lucky victory last Saturday afternoon after clashing with rival Lopez Anacoura just before the end in the SF5 final. Anacoura had beaten him into the tight hairpin only to be run off the track by Michel, this leaving Lopez with a broken steering and had to abandon the race. Had he finished second, he would have been given the win due to the time penalty Michel was to receive at the end. Nevertheless, with only one lap left, Lopez was classified fifth which keeps him atop the standings with 89 points, one more than Anacoura.

In the mêlée, Loïc Decomarmond claimed second, with Eric Maillet third, Craig Laporte fourth, Anacoura fifth, Dean Maillet sixth and Jovan Varsani seventh.

In the Cadet class, Darrel Gabriel took his first win with Ruben Magnan second and Dhruvil Varodhia third.

Dhruvil has won all the races so far, but surprisingly this time, he was not using his usual kart and found the other very different and he could not make the adaptation quick enough. He still leads the championship table with 114 points from Darrel who has 93, followed by Ruben with 60.

In the final race, Ronan Varsani finished fourth with Laurant Lalande fifth, Pearl Patel sixth, Salama Entete seventh and Johan Cadeau eighth.

After this coming weekend’s Mid-Season GP and the upcoming school holidays, the Junior and Cadet classes will resume their racing on Saturday September 1.
