Football - British high commission donates footballs to Bel Air FC |30 July 2018

The British high commission of Victoria has donated 10 footballs to the Bel Air FC team during a handover ceremony held on Wednesday afternoon at Stad Popiler.

The donation was presented to Bel Air FC by the British high commissioner’s spouse, David Mingay, and took place shortly before the team’s match against Marine Maintenance FC.

“It’s always a pleasure to be able to promote the great Scottish sport of football around the world. I’ve been a lifelong supporter of my local team in Scotland, St Mirren, who have this year been promoted to the Scottish Premiership, and it’s also great to be able to support my local football team here in Seychelles, Bel Air FC. They’ve been doing fantastically well this season, and I hope that being able to contribute to their training sessions by providing more footballs means they will be able to perform even more successfully in the future,” said Mr Mingay.

This donation of footballs follows a request made by the team for support in securing equipment for their training, which the high commission was pleased to assist with, especially as the British residence and Bel Air FC share the same district.

“The footballs received will certainly assist the team tremendously, both for technical and tactical development of our young players, as the team intend to have one ball for each player, especially for personal skills and technical development. The team management, all the community and our vocal supporters again take this opportunity to thank the high commission and wishes the team all the best for the rest of the season. Keep it up boys!” said Bel Air FC coach Ralph Jean-Louis.

Following Wednesday’s 2-2 draw against Marine Maintenance, Bel Air FC hold first place on the 12-team table with 24 points.
