Luciana Lagrenade to chair new Electoral Commission |30 July 2018
Luciana Lagrenade is the chairperson of the newly appointed Electoral Commission (EC).
President Danny Faure on Saturday endorsed Mrs Lagrenade as the chairperson of the new EC, following the recommendations provided by the Constitutional Appointments Authority (CAA).
The EC comprises the chairperson and six other members who are appointed for a seven-year term, as provided by Article 115 of the Constitution.
Mrs Lagrenade replaces Hendrick Gappy who resigned as chairperson of the EC in January 2018. It was EC member Bernard Elizabeth who was acting as chairperson.
Mrs Lagrenade was already serving as a member of the EC since July 2017.
The other members of the EC are Jenny Adrienne, Patrick Joseph Hoareau, Henry Bastienne, Wendy Didon, Norlis Rose-Hoareau and Veronique Bonnelame.
Similarly to Mrs Lagrenade, Ms Bonnelame has been serving as a member of the EC since July 2017.
The outgoing EC members are Bernard Elizabeth, Gerard Lafortune, Marie-Therese Purvis and Beatty Hoareau. Their seven-year term expired on Friday, July 27.
Speaking to the Seychelles NATION, Mrs Lagrenade said she was happy and proud to have been selected for the post of EC chairperson.
“I look forward to working with this new commission comprising one member who joined at the same time I did last year and the new members coming in,” Mrs Lagrenade said.
She further stated that she will not be able to make any further statement until the Commission is sworn in and has had its first meeting.
Mrs Lagrenade also joined President Faure in thanking the outgoing members for their seven years of service, adding that she wishes them all the best.
