Lions Club to host blood donation camp on August 25 |03 August 2018

                                                                                                                       

The Lions Club of Seychelles is organising a blood donation camp on Saturday August 25, 2018 at the Seychelles Hospital (Red Roof).

The aim is to help boost the availability of blood and blood products for patients.

Members of the public are being encouraged to take part in this noble cause.

The theme for this activity is ‘Save a life, give blood. Let's make a difference’.

Anyone who would like to donate blood on that day are kindly asked to get in touch with the club president, secretary, treasurer or any member of the Lions Club of Seychelles.

The Ministry of Health team at the Blood Transfusion Centre (BTC) will comprise a doctor, nurse, a lab technician and a nurse assistant. The doctor will be there to assess the donors on;

  1. Full length donor history e.g. hemoglobin, HBP, cold & flu, diabetes, cancer, medications, hepatitis, and HIV risk etc.
  2. People who have recently travelled abroad in certain countries may be excluded because they are at risk of transmitting agents such as malaria.
  3. Age (18 -64 years) or DOB etc.
  4. Weight  >50kg.
  5.  Intravenous drug abusers are excluded.
  6. Diet: A breakfast or a meal is recommended at least two to four hours prior to donation.
