Senpa celebrates 14th anniversary and end of its mandate with exhibition

The Small Enterprise Promotion Agency (Senpa) marked its 14th year anniversary and end of its mandate with an exhibition entitled ‘Lokaliz ou Lakaz’.

The week-long exhibition, which was officially opened in a small ceremony at Camion Hall on Saturday evening, is the agency’s final exhibition before being replaced by the Enterprise Agency Seychelles (ESA).

The ESA comes into effect today.

Among the guests at the exhibition launch on Saturday were Vice-President Vincent Meriton, chief secretary Jessie Esparon, staff members of Senpa and local artisans and entrepreneurs.

The theme for the exhibition has been chosen as an appreciation for the impressive work of local artisans and craftsman in their drive to create and promote local products. It is the collaborative work of over 20 artisans displayed in a house based on the premise that we all rely on each other to build a home.

Chief executive of Senpa Penny Belmont delivered an emotional speech in which she applauded the staff of Senpa and acknowledged the achievements of the enterprise.

She urged entrepreneurs and small business owners to never quit but instead persevere and face their challenges head-on.

“Failure is welcome among entrepreneurs, provided they learn from it,” she said.

Quoting Thomas Edison, she added that it is important that entrepreneurs remain optimistic in the dynamic business environment and that they remain open to the idea of working together.

The house features a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and living area furnished with custom made furniture, artifacts and paintings by local entrepreneurs. It is surrounded by a garden filled with flowers, herbs and vegetables.

Domesticated animals are also on exhibit as part of the ideal family farm.

Ms Belmont’s speech was followed by a speech by the principal secretary for Industry, Entrepreneurship Development and Business Innovation Roger Toussaint and a special message by chairperson of Senpa, Marise Berlouis.

Vice-President Meriton, along with Mrs Berlouis and former CEO Lucy Athanasius, also assisted Ms Belmont in cutting Senpa’s 14th anniversary cake and presented tokens of appreciation to the former chief executives of Senpa and handed out the prizes for best garden décor.

Taluha Garden Centre owned by Vital Hoareau and his wife Debora won the first prize.

Invitees and guests were then given a tour of the different stalls and the house while local artist Isham and his band provided musical entertainment.
