Silhouette Island Art Class to be launched this weekend |16 August 2018

Exploring the beauty of Silhouette and putting it down on canvas is a new activity Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort and Spa will be offering guests at the hotel on Silhouette and to local residents during the month of August.

The summer painting activity, dubbed the “Silhouette Island Art Class”, will take place during the weekends and will be launched tomorrow and Saturday where the hotel is offering a special stay package for local residents to come to relax and explore the beauty of Silhouette through a hike and painting activity. Day trippers are also welcome for this activity.

The package will include boat transfers, lunch, dinner, bottled water for the hike trail and all materials for painting. Guests will get to take home their souvenir paintings.

The art class costs R3000 per person for the day package, with a two-course lunch and one soft drink. Children under 13 years will pay R2200.

For one night stay on full board the price is R4500 per person while kids under 13 years will pay R3300.

For the weekend getaway, the prize is R9000 for two nights’ stay for two persons on full board. Children under 13 years will pay R6600.

Guests will be able to use the hotel facilities and will be provided with beach towels.

The hike will start at Grann Kaz at La Passe at around 10.30am and move down south to Ramasse Tout trail and back to Grann Kaz for the painting session.

Hikers will get informative tips on the way from the experienced hotel guide Prajeesh Mohandas, the leisure and recreational manager. He speaks Malayalam, Tamil and English.

Participants will have to capture their images to paint in their own way, through their minds, taking photos on cameras and phones as paintings will not be done on site.

The two-hour painting session will be under the supervision of professional Seychellois artist Nigel Henrie.

Guest participants will go on a 30-minute hike at ‘Ramasse Tout’ trail, an ancient foot path going uphill into the wild untouched vegetation and down to the sea side, in the southern wild part of Silhouette.

The coastal side offers views of the ocean waves splashing on rocky side of Silhouette and sandy beaches.

The islands of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue can also be seen from the top of the beautiful volcanic rock formation.

Apart from the unique rain forest and rocky bay, the area also holds an ancient cemetery, a cross and a small grotto erected high up on the volcanic rock.

Proper sports shoes have to be worn on the trail.

“The vegetation, the views and the rock formation are inspiring to me as an artist and to people who like taking photographs. This area provides incredible inspiration, with magnificent panoramic views which I think will inspire everybody coming on the trail, whether he or she is a doctor, carpenter, farmer, musician, office worker or an artist. Anybody will surely get inspired from up there,” said Mr Henrie who was on the trail for the first time on Friday last week, guided by Mr Mohandas. Also present were fellow artists Danny Sopha and Roland Valentin.

“This place is where you can pick everything up and put them inside your head and later put them down on paper,” Mr Henrie added as he referred to the French word ‘Ramasse Tout’, meaning ‘picking up everything’ in English.

Also on the trail last Friday, Judith Heede, the PR and social media consultant for Labriz, said the management saw it fit to provide extra activities to keep the guests occupied.

Ms Heede said that after the painting session guests are free after lunch to relax and enjoy Silhouette in their own way.

Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort and Spa also has an art gallery and holds art sessions for kids and adults. The Seychellois art tutors also get involved in the night entertainment activities where they do face paintings, tee-shirt printing and also play the drums and participate in dancing the ‘moutya’ with the guests.
