English River school students and teachers on educational visit to Uganda |16 August 2018

Nine teachers and nine students from English River secondary school leave Seychelles today to take part in an education exchange visit to St

Paul’s Mutolere Secondary School of Uganda.

The trip forms part of a new project entitled ‘Know where your teachers come from’ that the school has initiated.

There are many expatriate teachers in Seychelles schools and most of the time they are not well appreciated by both students and parents. We are often ignorant of where these teachers come from as well as their way of life and different cultures. The project has been initiated to help the students and staff of the English River school to know these individuals better as well as where they come from through various means including physical visits to their countries.

St Paul Mutolere secondary school is a boarding school and the group will be accommodated there during their stay in Uganda.

The school will also be providing meals besides accommodation.

While in Uganda, the students and teachers from Seychelles will have the chance to visit places of interest, especially nature reserves in the area.

They will also participate in a debate on wetlands and in a tree planting activity.

A cultural evening has also been organised so that the Ugandans can have a taste of the Seychellois culture and vice versa.

Our students will learn from their Ugandan friends and hopefully, once back in the Seychelles, will better appreciate the expatriates found in our schools and they will also be able to talk to others about things learnt from mainland Africa.

The delegation is expected to return to Seychelles on August 23.
