The third Zwe Lespwar reserved for secondary school students will be officially launched on Monday at the Cable & Wireless Arena, Roche Caïman.

Jointly organised by the National Sports Council (NSC) and the local sports federations, the third Games is aimed at promoting and developing sports, identifying potential sporting talent, promoting interaction and socialising of contestants as well as contributing to the development of social and moral values.

The third Games will feature athletics, basketball, swimming, table tennis and volleyball at competitive level, while boxing will feature exhibition bouts only.

It will gather students from the 11 public and four private secondary schools.

All contestants will get free food, drinks and transport to and from venues, while the Stad Linite dormitory will host those coming from the inner islands.

A committee headed by the director for sports management and development in the NSC Terrence Barbé has been set up to oversee the running of the games.

Monday’s opening ceremony which will be hosted by the Seychelles National Youth Council will include a march past of all schools in their uniforms, singing of the Games’ theme ‘Zwe Lespwar’, taking of oaths by officials and athletes, cheerleaders’ performance, hip-hop dance performance and boxing exhibition matches.

For the third Games, both male and female students are allowed to take part in all the competitions. However all teams must be made up of members of the same sex.

All teams for each sport are allowed the same maximum number of team members and all teams are allowed a maximum of two coaches.

It is obligatory to have a coach present at all matches and all team members must wear the same colour uniforms.

The NSC will provide uniforms for basketball, football and volleyball and players are expected to wear these uniforms.

If part of the uniform does not fit a player they may wear another item provided it is of a similar colour to the uniform.

Swimmers do not have to wear specific colours but should respect the swimming regulations that require girls to wear one piece bathing suits and boys to either wear a bathing suit or beach shorts.

Shorts with pockets or made of denim (jeans material) are not to be worn.

Students are also urged to wear shoes for the appropriate events and matches.
