New Korean ambassador accredited |29 August 2018

Lim Hoonmin is the new ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Seychelles.

He presented his credentials to President Danny Faure at State House yesterday morning.

Following his first meeting with President Faure, Ambassador Lim told the local press that his discussions with the President had been very fruitful and it was an opportunity to explore ways to further improve the two countries’ bilateral ties.

“In addition to the existing areas of cooperation the President highlighted others to which he attaches great importance and would like Korea’s support and these include support in e-governance, the blue economy policy and the police,” Ambassador Lim pointed out.

As this is only the first meeting Ambassador Lim said nothing has been finalised and more discussions will be required between the two governments to iron out various aspects related to the proposals in the areas the President raised.

“But I will do my best to achieve tangible results in those three areas during my tenure of office,” Ambassador Lim affirmed.

Meanwhile Ambassador Lim noted that there are still several areas where cooperation needs to be further enhanced and these include in the fisheries sector, renewable energy as well as maritime security.

He said Korea will continue to work with Seychelles to continue to explore ways to strengthen their cooperation in various fields. In the field of tourism Ambassador Lim said Seychelles is a very popular honeymoon destination for Korean newlyweds with more than 2000 couples travelling here during the year. Some 10 years ago the figure was less than a 100. Ambassador Lim expressed the hope that these figures will continue to increase.

The two countries established diplomatic links soon after Seychelles became independent in 1976.

Ambassador Lim replaces Ambassador Kim Jong-Geun who was accredited to Seychelles in March 2014. The Korean ambassador is based in Addis Ababa.
