Dr Steve Fanny appointed on AU board of external auditors |02 May 2013

Finance and trade principal secretary Dr Steve Fanny has been appointed as a member on the African Union board of external auditors for a two-year term.

The principal function of the board is to carry out an external auditing of the accounts of the African Union and ensure that the audit is in conformity with the generally accepted auditing standards and guidelines and subject to any direction by the executive council.

The board is also responsible to carry out an audit of the accounts which includes the trust funds, project funds and special funds.

The board of external auditors comprises 10 regular members and five alternate members who are appointed by the executive council, and membership is open to all the AU member states.

The members of the board are usually composed of qualified professional accountants and financial experts for the member states.

The board usually meets once a year at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
