Third paper-cutting workshop in progress |01 August 2013


The third paper-cutting workshop listed under the agreement of cultural cooperation between the government of Seychelles and the government of the People’s Republic of China is under way.
Organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the workshop started Tuesday at the National Cultural Centre.

The workshop is being conducted by Duan JianJun, a famous contemporary Chinese paper-cutting artist from the Inner Mongolia province.

The event is being held in collaboration with the Chinese embassy in Seychelles and the Chinese cultural centre in Mauritius. It shows the growing and excellent cultural relations between China and Seychelles.

Mr Duan said he is amazed after his first day in Seychelles, adding he is enjoying it.

He started the paper-cutting workshop by making coconut trees, tortoises and other items those taking part like.

Paper-cutting is a Chinese national intangible cultural heritage items and an art form which encourages creative aesthetic connotations.



Mr Duan is in Seychelles for 10 days to teach 19 art teachers and a total of 30 students from textile and fashion schools before flying to Mauritius.

The first Chinese day scheduled for early 2014 could be a platform to promote this new art form.
