Installation of concrete decking on Cascade bridge starts |14 August 2013

The second phase of repair work has started on the Cascade bridge which has reduced traffic to one lane only.

Since Monday, the Seychelles Land Transport Agency (SLTA) has started installing concrete decking slides as part of repair works to the bridge structure.

The first phase of work on this stretch of road which included repairing the side walls of the bridge to support the slides started more than a month ago after the SLTA reduced traffic flow on that stretch of road by limiting access to only vehicles of less than 10 tonnes loading capacity and re-routing other vehicles onto the Providence Highway.

Project director Wilbert Herminie said yesterday that the stretch of road concerned has now been declared a construction site and vehicle owners are being encouraged to as much as possible use the Providence Highway to avoid traffic congestion on the Cascade road where only one lane is being used.

“Motorists and pedestrians are being asked to be very cautious and to follow all signs and take precautions for their own safety when crossing the area,” Mr Herminie said.

He pointed out that the situation will remain as such for the coming two to three months as work progresses.
