Flag hoisting marks India’s 67th Independence Day |16 August 2013

India’s 67th Independence Day anniversary was marked by a flag hoisting ceremony held yesterday at the Indian high commissioner’s residence at Au Cap.

The event was attended by the Indian high commissioner to Seychelles Thanglura Darlong and members of the Indian community living in the country.

Mr Darlong read an extract of the address from Indian President Pranab Mukherjee for the occasion.

He said there is a direct relationship between a successful democracy and a successful economy, for India is a people-driven nation.

“In a globalised world, with increasing economic complexities, we have to learn to cope better with adversities, both external and domestic,” he said.

He added that the last decade has seen India emerge as one of the fastest growing nations in the world.

Mr Darlong also talked about the first ever Seychelles-India day which he said will showcase the contributions made by members of the Indian community in Seychelles.

He said the day will also show India’s culture in various aspects and Indo-Seychelles relations at various levels.

Mr Darlong is calling on members of the Indian community to contribute towards making the day a success.
