Electoral commissioner on election study visit to the UK |28 April 2005

A communique from the British High Commission said that Mr Gappy’s participation in the election process forms part of a 5-day election study visit to the United Kingdom at the invitation of the British Government.

The election study tour will include a one-day discussion with the British Electoral Commission during which the delegates will be briefed on the election process.

Topics will include an introduction to the UK electoral system, the administration of elections, electoral law, modernisation, new technology, the regulation of political parties and the role of the media among others.

Two days of the visit will be dedicated to the election process itself whereby the delegation will be invited to the UK regions to witness the practical side of elections such as the management of polling stations, meeting with election officers from the Local Councils as well as returning officers, meeting with voters, media coverage and the counting of votes.

Mr Gappy, who leaves Seychelles on Saturday April 30, is expected back next weekend.
