Basketball: Inter-school knockout competition-Anse Boileau boys retain title – Pointe Larue girls dethrone Mont Fleuri |22 April 2009

Anse Boileau have retained their title

Last year’s girls winners Mont Fleuri lost their title to Pointe Larue in the final, while Anse Boileau successfully defended theirs.

Seven teams – four boys and three girls – challenged for the ultimate prize.
Mont Fleuri and Pointe Larue met in the final after they both registered convincing wins – 32-0 and 28-2 – against Anse Royale.

With Kimberly Vidot and Kareen Pouponneau scoring on lay-ups and easy 2-pointers, Pointe Larue went for the break leading 9-6.

Both teams scored three two-point baskets in the second half and Pointe Larue won the encounter 12-9.
Anse Boileau had a title to defend and they did it in style. They first trounced Plaisance 36-4 in the semifinal to set up a final showdown with Mont Fleuri, who had eliminated Pointe Larue on a 19-17 score in the other last-four match.

Led by captain Arnaud Arissol, Anse Boileau, with most of their players turning out for Drifters in the division two league, showed that they meant business and went on to win the match 36-7.

Captain Arissol later said the fact that most of their players play in the second division league helped.

He added that although he won’t be around next year as he will have completed his studies at secondary level, Anse Boileau will be all out to defend their title.
