US praises steps we have taken to reform economy-● Pledges continued support against piracy

President Michel welcomes Mrs Blaser at State House

“It is quite admirable that Seychelles has met many of its marks working with the IMF,” she said after having talks with President James Michel.

“From my perspective I see very positive things in how Seychelles is working with the international organisations to carry out these critical economic reforms.”

She said her talks with the President also touched on piracy, adding that the US has been a long-term partner of Seychelles in maritime security, and the two countries have worked closely together. Her country’s warships are in the Indian Ocean area and have been for a very long time.

“We look forward to continuing that cooperation. We are working together in international relations and bilaterally, and we will continue to have a good and productive dialogue,” said Mrs Blaser, adding that the President is very supportive on mutual cooperation between the two countries.

Mrs Blaser said the US is proud to have the relationship it has with Seychelles.
It is, however, not considering reopening an embassy here, although Mrs Blaser pointed out that there is a consular agency.

She said efforts are made to ensure the speedy processing of visas for Seychellois who travel to Mauritius to get one, and someone from the Port Louis-based embassy is quite often in Seychelles.
