Shangri-La resort set to open next year |07 May 2009

Dr Laszlo Biro, the project’s adviser, has said that all the logistics are in place and 250 workers are on the ground, along with all the machinery and materials they need.

“It took a while to amass them, but everything is now running smoothly and we expect the Seychelles Shangri-La Resort and Spa to be fully open by December 2010,” he said.

Dr Biro, who is acting on behalf of developer Sandor Demyan, said there has so far been a lot of drilling, with 31,000 cubic metres of rock being blasted.

“The public will be pleased to know that all the technological, engineering and other requirements, including the finances, have been secured and work is progressing well,” he said.

“Every week we realise high-quality work output.”
He said the 89-villa hotel will have photo studios, a dive centre, sailing facilities, and a great deal of landscaping and planting will be done to make it “an island of flowers”.

The developers earlier said the resort will feature pools facing the ocean, spacious sundecks and outdoor showers, “all set amidst meandering pathways through lush island foliage”.  

They said it will have therapies “based on the ancient healing traditions, philosophies and rituals of China and the Himalayas”.

It will also have a hilltop wedding chapel that can take up to 30 people for weddings, vow renewals and blessing ceremonies.
“Dining options will include a lobby lounge and bar, all-day coffee shop, speciality restaurant and poolside bar. Additional facilities will include a kids’ club, internet room and fitness centre. An island library will be available for solitary, leisurely reading or small gatherings of up to 75 people,” said the developers.

“The Shangri-La Resort and Spa will be ideally located to take advantage of Seychelles’ clear, warm, turquoise waters as Long Island is part of the acclaimed St Anne Marine National Park,” wrote Madhu Rao, managing director and chief executive of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.

“Shangri-La Resort and Spa Seychelles will be an Indian Ocean oasis combining Shangri-La’s signature Asian style of service with distinctive Seychellois charm.”

The Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts group owns or manages 60 hotels with a total of 28,000 beds around the world. It has over 50 projects under development in Austria, Canada, China, France, India, Japan, Macau, Maldives, Philippines, Qatar, Thailand, United Kingdom and United States.
