Volleyball: men and women division two roundup-United Sisters and Outsiders in the lead

With a maximum 12 points after four wins, United Sisters will, on Sunday at the Palais des Sports, meet bottom team Mont Fleuri United, who are yet to taste victory.

The Mont Fleurians will surely be all out to put an end to their four-game losing streak against Jean Marie’s United Sisters, whose main aim is to return to the first division.

Despite losing 0-3 (15-25, 18-25, 17-25) to Santa West in an entertaining match at the La Promenade Gymnasium on Sunday, Cascade Youth currently hold second place in the six-team standings. They have 11 points after three wins and two losses.

Outsiders and Anse Royale are locked on 10 points

Following their 3-1 (25-23, 25-14, 17-25, 25-14) 76-minute win against Cadettes, who are preparing for next year’s Jeux de la Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien, in Reunion, St Louis Bombers are third.

Relegated to the second-tier at the end of last season, the Bombers – a force in Seychelles’ women’s volleyball during the time of regionalisation in the 1980s – got only their second victory in four outings for eight points.

With just one win in four games, Cadettes are in fifth position with six points.

A strong contender for promotion to the top flight next year, Anse Boileau-based Santa West, with manager Joliff Figaro doing his utmost to put his players in the right frame of mind for every match, garnered their second win on Sunday and they also have one defeat for seven points.

Men’s team Outsiders will not be in action this weekend as they have played all their four first-round matches.

They won the first two sets of their last game against third-placed Neo Boyz, but fell victims to the newly formed team, who went on to win the other three sets for a 3-2 (29-31, 22-25, 27-25, 25-21, 15-13) victory after 114 minutes of play.

Outsiders, who won their first three games, lead the pack with 10 points out of possible 12.

They are followed in second position by Anse Royale, who are also on 10 points with the same win-lose record. Outsiders lead Anse Royale by virtue of a superior set score difference of +60 to the runners-up’s +4.

On Saturday, Anse Royale trailed by two sets before overcoming La Digue 3-2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-13).

La Digue did sail back home with three points after their 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-22) victory over Cadets, who are carrying the weight of the five-team table with three points after three losses in as many games.

Neo Boyz are in third place with seven points from two wins and a defeat.
