Petanque: Tryers doublette tournament-Renaud/Chang-Time duo triumph |21 May 2009

Runners-up last year after losing to the Mont Buxton duo of Malagasy Tsiry Lalaina and Seychellois Iven Anacoura in the final, the Tryers pair of Joseph Charles and Auguste Louise finished fourth this time.

Although the title was again won by the Mont Buxton team, it was the pair of Roland Renaud and Bernard Chang-Time who triumphed this time.

Former players of the year Renaud and Chang-Time lifted the winners’ trophy after defeating Barnsley Mellon and Roy Meriton of the Takamaka team 13-5 in the re-scheduled men’s final on Sunday at the La Promenade boulodrome.

Lalaina and Anacoura finished third after their win in the third place play-off match against Charles and Louise.

Slated for Sunday May 10, the final was postponed because of sudden heavy rains.

Although the ladies winners were known on May 10 as their competition was played as scheduled, champions Sheila Adolphe and Dorothy Joubert of the Beau Vallon team received their prizes together with the senior male and junior players.

Adolphe and Joubert won their two matches in the competition played on a league basis.

With one win and a defeat, Vivianne Finesse and Willette Joubert, also of Beau Vallon, secured second place. Third position was occupied by the Mont Buxton duo of sisters Sheila Chang-Time and Linda Sinon.

Xianne Joubert and Dorothy Joubert of Roche Caïman joined forces to finish first last year.

The best junior team of the tournament was the Mont Buxton side comprising Mario Dufresne and James Ernesta. The two players won all three league matches.
