Roche Caïman outreach project launched at Eden Island |23 May 2009

The programme is an initiative by the residents of Eden Island to find a way to reach out to their neighbouring community.

It is headed by a steering committee comprising representatives from the local schools, health and administration offices, as well as homeowners and Jasper van der Westhuizen, general manager of the Eden Island Village Management Association.

Committee member and homeowner Alison North gave a presentation showcasing the specially designed logo and website, and also outlined the aims of the programme.

Two pupils from Plaisance secondary school read their own poems about life in Roche Caïman, which they had prepared especially for the evening. Drawings by eight pupils were also on display.

The Roche Caïman committee members also attended the function and were on hand to answer questions.

Guests soon got to know each other over a South African-style barbecue prepared by the Eden Island chefs, along with beverages donated by the East Indies Company and Takamaka Bay.

Through ticket sales and generous donations from homeowners, more than $9,000 was raised for the programme, which will go towards various projects outlined by the steering committee.

The Eden Island Development Company also gives substantial financial and resources support to the initiative.
