Football: Airtel Cup-St Michel march on, St Louis Suns thrash LightStars, Dynamo shock La Passe |25 May 2009

On La Digue on Saturday, Northern Dynamo shocked La Passe 2-0 and the day before St Louis Suns added to LightStars’ woes with a 4-0 thrashing.

St Michel beat Anse Reunion

St Michel fielded what is considered their strongest squad as they took the match to Anse Reunion.
In the fourth minute, Don Anacoura tested goalie Evans Ernesta with a long range effort which flew agonisingly wide.
Anse Reunion replied a minute later as Malagasy Jocelyn linked up with colleague Milison Niasere, who set up Roderick Rose but he hurried his shot which sailed wide.

In the 10th minute, Anse Reunion should have taken the lead as captain Yelvanny Rose flicked a long goal-kick to Milison, who was clearly offside but was not signaled. Milison raced clear but goalie Nelson Sopha showed his class and experience to deny the Malagasy striker.

St Michel duly took the lead in the 19th minute from an Anacoura corner, which was not cleared and Alex Nibourette hooked it over the goal-line for a 1-0 advantage despite claiming an infringement.

Two minutes later, St Michel should have extended their lead as Philip Zialor threaded a glorious through ball to Francis Nourrice. He tried to round Ernesta, who stopped him in his strides.

In the 25th minute, Zialor was at it again as he released Malagasy Pascal but he somehow shot across goal when it looked easier to score.

St Michel stretched their lead in the 55th minute from another Anacoura cross which Zialor cleverly allowed to pass him, letting in Pascal, who headed past Ernesta to make it 2-0.

St Michel then released their foot on the accelerator and Anse Reunion had chances to reduce the deficit.
In the 75th minute, Yelvanny Rose saw his well-struck free-kick saved by Sopha. Two minutes later, Milison latched onto a through ball but his control let him down in a good scoring position as Sopha charged out to clear the danger.

Deep in injury time, Milison was again denied by Sopha after substitute Ronny Jacques had threaded a pass to him.

St Louis Suns add to LightStars’ woes

St Louis Suns added to Praslin side LightStars’ woes with a comfortable 4-0 win on Friday at Stad Linite.
St Louis Suns should have killed the game off in the first half against a very defensive LightStars. In the first minute, Wilnes Brutus linked up with Andy Mougal, who fired wide.

In the fifth minute, Brutus created space for himself but his shot was stopped by goalie Philip Battin.
Two minutes later, LightStars had a half chance as their new Malagasy recruit Mario Ravo tried his luck with a shot which flashed across goal.

St Louis Suns had a strong penalty claim turned down by referee Gonzague Boniface in the 27th minute as Brutus was brought down by Perry Nibourette.

A minute later, Brutus missed a sitter as Malagasy Jean Del’Or Tsaralaza pulled the ball in his path. The same Brutus had an even better opportunity in the 34th minute as Mougal rounded Battin before rolling the ball to him, but he failed to hit the target.

Brutus though came good in the second half as he opened the scoring in the 59th minute with an instinctive volley after Denis Barbé’s shot was deflected in his path.

Four minutes later, Battin made a flying save to deny Malagasy Hasinarivolo Rijananina’s long range drive.
In the 69th minute, Battin again denied St Louis Suns as he tipped over Mougal’s deflected shot.

St Louis Suns went further ahead in the 83rd minute from substitute Mervin Mathiot’s well-struck free-kick which flew past Battin.

On the stroke of full time, Jean Del’Or centred and when a defender missed his clearance, the ball fell to Mougal who just had to tap into an empty net for a 3-0 advantage.
St Louis Suns sealed their victory with the last kick of the match as Barbé broke clear to rifle a low shot which went in via a post for a 4-0 win.

Northern Dynamo shatter La Passe’s unbeaten run

Northern Dynamo caused a major upset on La Digue on Saturday as they came out 2-0 victors over the much-fancied La Passe.
Valerio Dorothé gave the visitors the lead in the first half and Steve Henriette sealed their win from the penalty spot in the second period.
