Volleyball: Women’s and men’s division two championship-Outsiders go top, Santa West stay in title hunt |02 June 2009

In the men’s division two, Outsiders brushed aside challengers Anse Royale’s challenge with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-18) win to shoot to the top of the five-team standings with 10 points.

The win was Outsiders’ fourth in five games. Third-placed Anse Royale and fourth-placed Neo Boyz boast the same win-lose record of 3-2 for 11 points.

La Digue are second with 12 points following their see-saw 3-2 (25-27, 25-19, 25-17, 25-21, 15-12) 102-minute win over Neo Boyz.

Coached by former Seychelles international Gaetan William, the Diguois also trounced inexperienced Cadets 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-14) in 55 minutes for their third win in six games.

In the women’s division two championship, Santa West have shown their intention of fighting for automatic promotion to the top flight next season.

For the second time in two weeks, Anse Boileau-based Santa West defeated Cascade Youth. Giving a debut to their newly acquired player – experienced and former Seychelles international Anita Jacqueline – Santa West followed their 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-17) Sunday May 17 win with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-23) victory.

Under manager Joliff Figaro, who is on the lookout for a coach to help make his team even more competitive, Santa West have 10 points after three wins and a loss.

In another women’s game, former top-flight team St Louis Bombers whitewashed Cadettes 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-21) for their third victory in five games for 10 points.
