Boxing-Young fighters get taste of first training camp |03 June 2009

The camp, held at Grand Anse, was carried out under the strict supervision of coach Hansel Larue, who firmly believes in a high level of discipline and sportsmanlike behaviour.

According to coach Larue, there was a need to change the training environment to apply new preparation techniques, which motivated the young fighters.

He explained that, initially, the camp was to prepare the boxers for a friendly tournament with fighters from Mauritius scheduled for this month. Although Mauritius decided not to take part, he decided to carry on with the planned training camp as the youngsters were already looking forward to it.

Apart from mental and physical endurance, coach Larue said they worked a lot on improving their sparring techniques.

Hard-hitter Stephen Bonne said he gained a lot from the camp. He explained that the high level of discipline set by the coach has helped him become a better fighter.

The trip was made possible through sponsorship from organisations including the Jj Spirit Foundation, the Trois Frères Distillery, Ms Inese Bonne, the Anse Royale district administration and the Cat Cocos, which gave the party a discount on boat fares.

Coach Larue said the club made new contacts while on Praslin and is expected to sign a new sponsorship agreement with Praslin-based Premium Security.

He also thanked all the Praslinois who helped and supported them to make them feel welcome.
