Cricket: Children’s second tournament-Terminators start with comfortable victory |12 June 2009

The Mustang Riders won the toss and chose to field. The openers for the Terminators, Kunal and Anthony, fell cheaply for eight runs between them, but then Ritesh and Raja shared 36 runs for the fourth wicket.

Ritesh scored 21 off 17 balls with two sixes, and captain Raja scored 27 not out from 24 balls with two fours.
The Terminators finished on 70 for five after 15 overs. In the bowling department, Jaydip, Byron, Nayan and Yuva got a wicket each.

In reply, the Riders’ Nayan fell early for five runs but then Nitin played a good innings of 20 runs off 10 balls with four fours. But as soon as he fell, the Riders kept losing wickets – they were very poor at running between the wickets and five of their batsmen were run out.

In the bowling department, Anthony, Raja, Kunal and Ritesh picked up one wicket each.   At the end, the Mustang Riders fell 18 runs short of their target, being bowled out for 52.

Daredevils clinch thriller

In the tournament’s second game on a very hot and sunny Saturday May 30, the Daredevils and Mahe Knight Riders clashed head-on.

The Daredevils won the toss and elected to field first. Early in the innings, Knight Riders’ Milind fell cheaply for four runs to Nicholas. But then everything came under control as Arka and Sidharth added 35 runs for the second wicket.

Skipper Arka made 30 runs off 24 balls with three fours and a six, and Sidharth made 15 runs off 23 balls, including one four.

Down the order, Bevan made 11 off five balls, hitting two fours and Ricky also played a superb cameo of 24 not out off only 12 balls, including four fours. At the end, the Knight Riders had scored 96 for six in 15 overs.

In the bowling department Dharmesh was outstanding, taking two wickets in two overs and conceding nine runs.

Chasing 97 runs, Nicholas and Ragul gave Daredevils a good start as they put on 40 runs for the first wicket. Ragul scored 25 off 20 balls and Nicholas 23 runs off 19 balls. But soon Nicholas fell to Siddharth and Ragul fell to Bevan. Wickets then fell at regular intervals, and the Daredevils were on 55 for four after 10 overs.

But then down the order, captain Dharmesh played a cracking innings of 34 not out off 24 balls, including five fours and one six.

In the bowling department, Bevan bowled one over, conceding 10 runs and picking up two wickets.
At the end, the Daredevils won by six wickets with six balls remaining.
