Fisherman’s Cove staff rewarded as hotel celebrates |13 June 2009

The event, combined with the celebration of five years of the revamped five-star hotel, took place at its Le Bourgeois bar and restaurant.

With 30 staff members receiving awards, the ceremony was attended by Minister for Employment and Human Resources Development Macsuzy Mondon, Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) officials, Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) chairman Roman Kopacek and principal Flavien Joubert.

Hotel general manager Olivier Français thanked and congratulated his staff for their five years’ service and also those who had previously been with the hotel as part of the “old” team.

“In you reside many years of history, experience and service, and we are all stronger because of your dedicated work in building the Seychelles tourism sector,” he said.

Mr Joubert said he had fond memories of most of the award-winners, having taught some of them at the former Ecole Hotelière des Seychelles, which was located just opposite the hotel – now the STB headquarters – and also having worked with them at the hotel.

The staff, who came from various sections such as kitchen, garden, front office, landscaping, supervision, restaurant and bar, were each given a certificate and shield presented by Mrs Mondon, Mr Joubert and Mr Français.
 
Linda Ramkalawan was the longest-serving worker, having joined in 1980 as a receptionist and now working as a financial controller, while the oldest employee was Julita Lucas, working in housekeeping, who joined in 1982.

The guests then socialised for the rest of the evening and were treated to hot-off-the-stove food from Chef Ulric Denis, who was giving a live cookery demonstration.
