Young talents get chance in Jj Spirit song contest final |04 July 2009

So far, regional eliminations have taken place on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue and there are 15 finalists.

The competition is a yearly event held by the foundation under its young talents programme. Last year’s winner was Darrel Nicette of Les Mamelles, whose entry was chosen as the theme song for the foundation, and he won a trip to Italy and recording opportunities.

This year’s winner will receive a package including an artistic internship programme and a record contract among other prizes.

“The Jj Spirit Foundation wants people of talent to come forward and showcase their talent,” a spokesman said.

“Many young people simply want a fair chance in life, and this competition is exactly that. It’s about giving young people a chance to live their dreams and have a go at it.”

The foundation stressed that all its programmes are geared towards giving young people a helping hand to start something in life, whether to start a small business, to invest in one’s education or in one’s talent.

“This is what we’re all about and I am truly happy that young people appreciate that,” the office of the Jj Spirit Foundation added.

“We are overwhelmed by the support we have received from our affiliated members, and we are benefiting from the expertise of people like Patrick Victor, Elijah and Mellow – they have truly supported the up and coming artists during this year’s competition.”

Tickets for the show will go on sale soon, and all proceeds will go towards renovating the youth hostel at Anse Royale.
