Speech pathologists display their work |25 August 2011

The exhibition is one of the activities held to mark Speech Pathology Week at national level which is being held under the theme ‘Literacy for life’.

For the second consecutive year, the speech pathology unit is organising these activities to give the speech pathologists the chance to promote their profession.

The aim of the week is to educate the general public and inspiring others into joining the profession.

The exhibition features different stations, each displaying specific aspects of literacy. There are interactive games as well which children and other members of the public can take part in.

Other activities organised to mark the week included a special mass yesterday at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and a presentation whereby speech pathologists covered issues such as their role in literacy, parents and teachers’ roles in managing children with speech and language difficulties.

Speech pathology is a profession that specialises in speech and language disorders. Speech pathologists assess and manage children and adults with speech, language, voice and swallowing difficulties.

It is important that children with speech and language difficulties be identified and assessed as early as possible in order to obtain early intervention to help them attain academic success.

As a result they will be able to successfully contribute towards the economical development of the country.
