Volleyball-Seychelles men in fifth-place playoff encounter |08 September 2011

On Tuesday, France-based Ian Furneau and company beat South Africa 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20) to set up the match-up against the Nigerians who beat the Mozambicans 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-21).

In the women’s match, Seychelles lost 2-3 (34-32, 19-25, 17-25, 25-20, 8-15) to Senegal and they were expected in action against Mozambique yesterday in the seventh-place play-off match.

Meanwhile, Algeria and Cameroon will face off in both the women’s and men’s finals.

In the men’s semifinals, Cameroon beat Kenya 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-8) and Algeria beat Rwanda 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 30-28).

Ranked fifth at the last women’s African Nations Championships, Cameroon stunned the African champions Kenya 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 31-29, 25-20) in the first semifinal, while the Algerians had a rather easy  journey to the final, sweeping Nigeria in straight sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-19).
