Basketball: National League-Hawks, HotShots extend lead |08 September 2011

Playmaker Zerah Fontaine led all scores with 32 points in HotShots’ 91-32 victory over Cadettes.

She was helped in offence by Sheriffa Agathine with 28 points, Jenita Toussaint with 15 and Samia Asba with 11.
Skipper Laura Françoise had the hot hands for Cadettes with 13 points.

In another women’s match played last week, former champions Anse Etoile Stars thumped Juniors 94-38 on the back of 28 points from captain Simone Malbrook and 25 from Malagasy Miantratsiory Rakotomomoundindy.
Jana Malbrook finished with 12 points for Juniors before fouling out.

Juniors again lost heavily on Tuesday – 28-60 against Mont Fleuri who remain in the fight for this year’s women’s title.

Jean-Paul Desaubin and Kenneth Sophie joined PLS Hawks during the recent transfer season and they played a part in helping the top-flight outgoing champions beat RC Dynamics 82-46.

Desaubin got just two points against his former team as Nigerian Alao Solomon again carried the scoring load for coach Clifford Joubert’s team with 29 points. RC Dynamics were paced by Ronny Julius with 19 points.

Sophie’s old team Cascade Bullets suffered a 46-62 defeat at the hands for former league winners Baya who got 20 points from Jean-Paul Camille.

Captain Dan Côme and Ronny Julienne were joint-top scorers for the Bullets with 11 points apiece.

Despite missing  Indian Ocean Island Games gold medallist Robert Léon who is rumoured to be on the way out, Baya were also victorious against Angels, beating the Anse Boileau-based team 97-63 with sharp shooter Camille firing on all cylinders to finish with a game-high 30 points, including a 3-pointer.

Angels’ Barry Dubignon twice connected from behind 3-point range for six of his team-leading 20 points.

Like Baya, MBU Rockers have also earned two wins in as many matches since the start of the second round.

Their first was against Angels on an 89-72 score and Alvin Marie banked five treys for 15 of his game-high 22 points, while Brian Morel added 20.

Marie got just two 3-pointers in the Rockers’ second win – 76-64 – against Mont Fleuri Dawgz and fouled out along with teammates Robert Francis and Daniel Hoareau.

Morel picked up the slack with 27 points and national team playmaker Nigel Sinon added 13. Nigel Cafrine scored 16 points for the Dawgz who are without IOIG gold medallist and playmaker Reggie Ah-kong who is pursuing his studies in China.

Nigerian centre Ugbaje Ajodoh paced Premium Cobras with 31 points as they reached the century mark in their 100-66 victory against last year’s second division winners Drifters who got 23 points, including four treys, from Arnaud Arissol.

Meanwhile, in the only men’s division two encounter, Anse Etoile, who have acquired Ryan Volcère from Praslin Warriors, walked over AAP Brothers.
