Badminton-Seychellois unlucky in doubles finals |13 September 2011

Seychelles was involved in two finals – women’s doubles and mixed doubles – of the individual event but lost both to South African opponents.

In the women’s doubles final, Alisen Camille and Cynthia Course lost in straight sets – 1-2 (18-21, 15-21) – to the South African pair of Stacey Doubell and Annari Viljoen.

Camille again finished on the losing end when he joined Georgie Cupidon in the mixed doubles final. The Seychellois pair lost the match 1-2 to the South African duo of Willem and Annari Viljoen.

After losing the first set 20-22, Cupidon and Camille pulled level with a 21-9 victory in the second to force a decisive third set which they lost 16-21.

Defeat means Cupidon has not been able to defend the gold medal he won in Algiers, Algeria, in 2007 with Juliette Ah-Wan as partner.

Seychelles also won two bronze medals in badminton in Maputo – in the mixed team event and the men’s doubles  (Steve Malcouzane and Cupidon).
