Judo-Marie finishes 14th at World Cadet Champs

Marie (facing camera) has finished 14th out of 34 judokas in the +90kg class at the World cadet Champs

Competing in pool C, Marie won his first fight by ippon with 30 seconds left on the clock against Aminjon Sharipov of Tajikistan before bowing out of the competition at the hands of Russian Alexey Sapunov with 17 seconds to go.

According to reports, the referee indicated that Sapunov scored a waza-ari against Marie, but his two linesmen said ippon. So he had to give the win by ippon to Sapunov who went on to win pool C and progress to the semifinal where he lost to Ukrainian Sergii Zvieriev.

Japanese Kensuke Tasaki won the +90kg category gold medal after beating Ukrainian Sergii Zvieriev in the final, while Russian Oleg Abaev won the bronze medal ahead of Simon Hamel from France.

Marie was accompanied by Ukrainian coach Oleh Pavlenko and National Sports Council representative Monique Athanase. 
Organised jointly by the Ukrainian Judo Federation (UJF) and the World Judo Federation (WJF), the championship included judokas from over 150 countries.

Japan won the most gold medals – seven– followed by Russia with three and Georgia with two. Ukraine, Germany, France and Brazil won a gold medal each.
