Relevance of Family to the Nation |24 September 2011

Family and Nation are interwoven, and therefore, inseparable.  Homes are a product of Family’s setup, the family setup is the foundation for a vibrant Church, and the Church determines the core values to any given Nation.  We need to understand that, the economical strength of any given nation is not determined by the availability of raw materials at its disposal but largely by the relevance and productivity of its citizens (family members).

The most valuable product therefore, any nation can boast off, is its personnel.  Dr Myles Munroe, an international motivational speaker, best-selling author, lecturer, educator, and business consultant said once, that the wealthiest place on the surface of the earth is not the gold mines of South Africa neither the diamond fields of Zambia, but the grave yard, perhaps the one behind your house.  Why?  In the grave, buried are great books that were never published, great poems that were never narrated and even greater ideas that never saw the light of the day.

Because family and nation are inseparable, the state of one automatically affects the other.  Healthy families mean healthy homes, and healthy homes make for a healthy church bringing about a blessed nation.  A blessed nation is one with the blessed people.  Build up the family and the nation will be build.  To get the nation in her proper place, the family must be put into proper shape.  The nations cannot shy away from this fact any more.

The family is the foundation and the bedrock of any given nation.  The most respected country today and also a super power, known by most of us as the US, consider every bit of family status in considering their leaders.  If any nation must grow to maturity, then families must be strengthened.  How strong the nation is will be affected to a great extent, by how strong the families in that nation are.

The Off blocks

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.   1 Corinthians 9:24 

The secret of off blocks is the greatest in the race of life.  Talk to the Jamaican power sprinters -  Usain Bolt being the fastest man on earth today with a  World Record of 9.58 seconds and his compatriot Asafa Powel - and they will narrate to you the thrilling story behind it.  Tyson Gay of the USA will confirm to you concerning this same matter; that what really powers them to the finishing line before the rest is the advantage obtained in concentrating and training on the correct use of the off blocks.

If you happen to meet with the coach of any one of these athletes and you ask him, the secret of top speed on the track, they will likely tell you something like this;  The start affects the smooth execution of the whole race.  The faster you accelerate at the start, the more potential you have for top-end speed and the easier it is to get to your top-end speed.  What makes a great starter is, number one, how you react. Number two, how explosive you are. And then position and all that comes into play later.  Before you even get into the blocks, you need to have a vision in your head of what it’s going to be like.

Family is the off block of any people.  You are born in your family and brought up in your family.  The people you grow with inform you to affect your thinking, and your thinking shapes your behaviour then your behavior gives birth to you character.  The character of any given person has a direct impact to the nation that person belongs to.

Someone said, “your future begins today”, therefore the future of any nation is determined by the status of the family today.  All the activities you see the governments doing like providing good educational facilities, quality health facilities, good roads and competent sports and recreational facilities is directed at strengthening the family in order for the nation to scale into new heights.

Culture value

And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.   Genesis 11:6 

Mother tongue is the language that defines the culture and the symbol that distinguishes the peculiarities between one people to another people.  The culture roots are the base of all genuine development and progress.  A language is a people’s way of thinking which contributes to the lifestyle of the nation.

Family culture determines community culture and community culture outlines the vital values to the nation.  If the families are talking love, the love will find its expression in that nation.  When people in the family put emphasis on hard work the nation will be build and if the family focuses on good values the government will have enough money for value adding projects instead of using the same money for fighting crime and enlarging the prisons.  Culture has its maximum impact at its roots which is family and displays its glory at the top which is the nation.

The Link Power

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!   Psalms 133:1 
The impact of any person in life is tied to the family ties.  A family tie determines the strength of the family.  As the king of the jungle, the lion’s success in hunting and living is tied to the strength and closeness of its family members.

Link, or define it better as unity is the stability to scaling imaginable heights.  The unity of the family is very important, it limits the heights of the nations economically, socially and development-wise.  Once the family is united it will be able to bring up its young-ones, the youth in a way that the nation will feel and appreciate their presence.

We are told that, young people need to be helped and moulded to become worthy citizens of tomorrow.  When the people (family) of a nation give attention to their youth, this is a sign that the nation is healthy.    It is the youth that makes a nation pulsate with promise.  The link between the youth and the family is the bridge for bringing out the talents and potentials to be celebrated in the nation.

The link is the defense against every intruder and the challenges facing many nations today like drugs, idleness and wrong company.  The link guarantees cultivation of power for impact and eliminates weakness and purposelessness.
