Volleyball-No league championship, Super Cup instead

Female volleyballers playing in the first division will challenge each other for the Super Cup starting October 5Second division teams will also take part in the Super Cup, but only after completing their leagues which started earlier this year.

Last year’s second division champions Juniors and runners-up OSC Comets will join reigning first division champs Friends, Cascade, Arsu, BSA Sisters, Santa West and La Digue in the women’s division one Super Cup.

The eight teams have been divided into two pools of four and the top-two will progress to the semifinals.

Pool ‘A’ comprise Friends, Arsu, Santa West and Juniors, while pool ‘B’ is made up of Cascade, BSA Sisters, La Digue and OSC Comets.

The six men’s teams are Premium Spikers (men’s division one champions), Beau Vallon, racing Club, BSA Spikers, Anse Royale and Neo Boys (last year’s men’s division two winners).
Premium Spikers will play Racing Club and Anse Royale in pool ‘A’, while pool ‘B’ comprises Beau Vallon, BSA Spikers and Neo Boys.

Like for the women, the two best teams in each group will go through to the semifinal knockout phase for a place in the November 6 final.

The cup competition will spike off on Wednesday October 5 with two matches: Premium Spikers v Anse Royale (men) and Friends v Santa West (women) at the Palais des Sports. Both matches will start at 5.15pm.

Meanwhile, the SVF has also decided that the Super Cup for men’s division two teams will be played on a league basis with the top two qualifying for the final. There are four teams – Outsiders, Juniors, Cadets and La Digue in the men’s second-tier league.

The women’s division two Super Cup involving five teams will be played on a straight knockout and the draw will be made on Saturday October 22 at the Palais Des Sports.

The Super Cup will be followed by the SVF Cup and the draw has been scheduled for Saturday October 22.

Players wishing to change teams will be able to do so before the start of the SVF Cup as the transfer window will open from November 7-11.
